96,000 graduates to participate in NYSC batch ‘B’

Come August 5th, a total of 96,000 graduates from different higher institutions of learning, will participate in the compulsory one year National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) exercise.
Director General (DG) of the Scheme, Brig. Gen. Johnson Olawumi, disclosed this in his speech, at a media chat with Bureau Chiefs and Editors in Abuja.
Olawunmi decried that deployment of corps members has become a herculean task due to the current insecurity challenge, stating however that the NYSC Act and Bye-Laws will not be disregarded.
“The prevailing security challenge has continued to put pressure on the deployment and relocation process of the scheme.
“As we continue to be alive to our responsibilities to the nation, our cherished corps members and the hardworking staff, we shall not equally lose sight of the fact that we operate within the ambit of the NYSC Act and By-Laws, particularly as it relates to deployment and relocation of corps members,” he said.
He reiterated that relocation process  will be based on individual merit, urging corp members to desist from submitting fake medical papers as severe punishments awaits culprits.
“I want to restate that cases of relocation as earlier stated will continue to be treated on individual merit. However, Management will apply the full weight of the law on any corps member that procures fake medical papers for the purpose of effecting relocation.
“To this end, I wish to make it clear that medical papers submitted for the purpose of seeking for relocation will be subjected to thorough scrutiny and any case of forgery will be visited with commensurate punishment in line with the NYSC By-Laws,” he warned.
The DG disclosed further that full computerisation of mobilisation process will begin with the 2014 Batch ‘C’ orientation.
This, he said is to enable prospective corp members register for orientation from wherever they are, and ease them the stress of going back to school for that purpose after graduation.
