5 killed, 10 missing as herders attack Benue communities 


At least five persons were Monday night killed and ten others still missing as a community in Guma local government was attacked by armed men suspected to be Fulani herdsmen.

Udei and Yelwata, both in Guma local government area of Benue state was reportedly attacked by gunmen around 7 pm on Monday.
Chairman of Guma local government, Caleb Abah, who confirmed the incident said he was aware that those killed are timber dealers who went in the evening to collect the timber they had cut from the forest in Mbagwen.


He stated further that only five  corpses of the victims have so far been recovered, adding that he has already reported the incident to the Police and other relevant security agencies. 


“I am aware that the attack took place around 7:00 pm.


“Those killed are timber dealers who went yesterday (Monday) in the evening to collect the timber they had cut from the forest in Mbagwen.

“So, it was when they were coming out of the forest that they met the attackers who attacked and killed them.

“They were 15 in number, but so far, only five corpses have been recovered out of the 15 persons.


“I have reported the matter to the police,” he stated.
