2026 World Cup qualifier: Super Eagles confront Benin Republic in Abidjan June 9

The Squirrels of Benin Republic will host the Super Eagles of Nigeria in a 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying matchday four tie at the Felix Houphouet Boigny Stadium, Abidjan in June.

Former Nigeria coach Gernot Rohr’s who is now with the Benin Republic will play the game at a neutral venue after their stadia were ruled sub-standard by the Confederation of African Football (CAF)

Super Eagles beat Guinea Bissau, Angola and Cameroon at the former Ivorian national stadium to go all the way to the AFCON championship final in February.

Benin Republic are bottom of Group C with a point from two matches after a goalless draw in Lesotho.

Nigeria are third on two points, same as Lesotho and Zimbabwe.

The match has been tentatively fixed for June 9, two days after the Super Eagles have hosted South Africa in Uyo.

Nigeria failed to qualify for the last World Cup hosted by Qatar after Ghana pipped the Super Eagles to the ticket in Abuja.
