2021 Nigerian Army Day

The Nigerian Army Day is an annual event typically held on July 6, in honor of Nigerian gallant soldiers who dedicated their lives, especially, those who had taken part in the World War I and World War II as well as those who had lost their lives during the Nigerian Civil War and other conflicts.

In fact, the families of these brave soldiers are encountering many challenges and untold hardships as the government leaves them in the lurch simply because of the demise of their bread winners.

However, the families and widows of these gallant soldiers were thrown into misery and abject poverty because government failed to pay their husbands’ entitlements to enable them to cater for their children. The wives and children of these patriots who made significant sacrifices for their fatherland and the world in general shouldn’t be left in pitiable situations.

Sadly, I was told by Mrs. Williams who is a widow of a Nigerian Army officer, who had died on a peacekeeping mission in 2016 in Somalia that she has been suffering without any help. Her children, that are supposed to be enrolled in school are roaming the street. What sort of injustice for these children whose fathers dedicated their lives in serving the country?

In a nutshell, government should look into these military widows’ untold plight. Meanwhile, their husbands died in the fight against terrorism with massive success.
