2020 Women’s and Men’s African Volleyball Club Championship postponed

 Cairo. Egypt, March 15, 2020- Due to the ongoing global corona virus outbreak, CAVB, Egypt Volleyball Federation and Al Ahly Sporting Club, the organizer of both the Women’s and Men’s 2020 African Volleyball Club Championship, have jointly agreed to postpone both events which were scheduled to be played in Cairo, Egypt from 31 March to 11 April 2020 – Women’s and from 12 to 23 April 2020 – Men’s, respectively.

While Al Ahly Sporting Club in liaison with the relevant authorities in Egypt had put in place measures to ensure safety and wellbeing of all the players, officials and the spectators who were to take part in the championship, CAVB, the Federation and Al Ahly Club recognizes the fact that there are various international travel limitations and restrictions in much of the continent that impact the ability of some participants to take part in the tournaments. The agreement to postpone the championships have thus been arrived at in the best interest of all the parties considering that the health of the athletes, officials and fans is to be given top priority by all sporting authorities.

CAVB, Egypt Volleyball Federation and Al Ahly is in constant consultation with the authorities in Egypt and are closely monitoring the situation as it continues to unfold and will determine new dates during which the events will be held. We will ensure that the new dates are timely communicated to each one of you immediately they are determined.

We acknowledge that this postponement may necessitate changes which some teams may have had in place. But as a volleyball family let us appreciate that the wellbeing and good heath of each member and particularly that of the athletes, is of paramount importance.
