2019: How to conduct free, fair elections – Sanusi

Katsina Emir of Kano, Muhammad Sanusi II has advocated peace pact by all political parties ahead of the 2019 general elections.
Sanusi spoke yesterday in Katsina at a lecture; “Youth Security and National Development,” organized by Katsina Vocational Training Centre.
He said signing a peace pact was necessary to ensure peaceful conduct of the election for the sustenance of democracy.
Sanusi noted that the pact would discourage the use of youths by politicians which triggers violence during elections.
The Emir accused some politicians in the North of using religion to divide people and achieve their political, selfish interest.
He said religion should not be used for political campaign, warning that politicians should allow religion in the hand of religious leaders.
On problems facing the North, Sanusi lamented that the region was now the poorest in the country with no focus to compete with its southern counterpart.
He said the bulk of the poorest people are concentrated in the region due to failure of the leaders to give priority attention to education of the teeming youth.
He explained that the Northern leaders must find solution to the problems facing the region so as to move it forward.
