2019: Abdulsalam, Etsu Nupe sue for peaceful election

Former Head of State, General Abdulsalami Abubakar has called on politicians to avoid overheating the polity with abusive words as if election was a do or die affair.
The former ruler stated this yesterday in Minna while speaking with journalists after rakat prayers to mark the celebration of Sallah.
In the same vein, Etsu Nupe, Alhaji Yahaya Abubakar has urged his subjects to register in the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) to elect credible leaders during the 2019 general elections and beyond.
The royal father spoke yesterday in a Sallah message in Bida, adding that the Permanent Voter Cards (PVC), is the only power the electorate can use to vote in credible candidates of their choices.
He implored district heads to mobilize their people to exercise their franchise in the election.
He said: ”The PVC is a very potent weapon to either vote in or vote out any candidates seeking to occupy any elective office.
So, without it one would not be able to exercise his due constitutional responsibility of casting his or her vote in the nation’s electoral process, You should all collect your PVC” “I call on village heads, district heads and other stakeholders to mobilise eligible voters to register and get their voter cards so as not to get disenfranchised in the 2019 general elections and beyond”, he said.
Abdulsalami who was the leading dignitary to say the two rakat prayers conducted by the Chief imam of Minna, Sheik Ibrahim Isah Fari at Minna central mosque called on politicians to stop exchange of words and attack on each other in order not to overheat the polity.
He said that politicians must learn to put national interest above selfish political pursuit by playing in accordance with the rules of the game for the corporate existence of the country.
He appealed to Nigerians to shun all acts capable of breaching peace and unity saying Peace is a veritable tool for national development and without it no nation could prosper to the desired heights.
He said: “We should therefore as patriotic citizens continue to uphold the noble virtues of peace, unity and the love for one another, irrespective of religious, ethnic or political affinities”.
