2015: Nigerians charge INEC on personnel training, security, voter education

Barely six months to 2015 general elections, Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has been charged by Nigerians to focus on personnel training, voter education and security.
Other areas INEC charged to focus on are: procurement of election materials, distribution of election materials, and production of comprehensive voters register, public display of voters register and erection of polling booths.
Explaining the opinion poll on 2015 general elections by the Alliance for Credible Election (ACE), Mrs. Toyin Akintoye, said Nigerians who said they do not intend to vote in 2015 cited lack of interest in politics, lack of confidence that the elections will be credible amongst others reasons.
Chairman of ACE, Comrade Yz  Yau, said that election remained the legitimate means of changing government.
“It is good we have a good government. In most cases elections in Nigeria have always be characterised with irregularity,” he said.

Macarthur Foundation representative, Dayo Olaide, said the foundation’s attraction to support the effort of ACE was to strengthen democracy.
He said the quest for power had been a driver of political crisis, adding that “2015 elections are very important and we all need to join hands to educate and enlighten the people and strengthen the process.”
General Secretary of ACE, Emma Ezeazu, noted that INEC has problems that needed to be addressed, adding that Nigerians are swinging between feelings on the elections conducted by the electoral umpire.
“If INEC manage to do something on thumb print, we will get it right,” he said.
