2 charged for gay $ex, public disturbance in Lagos

Two men, Promise Oluwabunkenoye and Kehinde Abiola, yesterday appeared before a Surulere Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos charged with anal $ex. Th e accused, Oluwabunkenoye, 24, and Abiola, 29, whose addresses are unknown, are facing a two-count charge of same-$ex having$exual intercourse and fi ghting in the public. Th e duo, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges. Th e Police Prosecutor, Anthonia Osayande, told the court that the accused with others still at large committed the off ences at City Centre Hotel at Ijeshatedo in Surulere about 3pm on June 1. Mr. Osayande said the accused were caught by a police patrol team fi ghting publicly over nonpayment of money for $exual acts. She alleged while the police interrogated them, one of the accused confessed to the fact that he was invited to Romeo and Juliet Hotel located at Ejigbo on May 28 at 5am for anal $ex

“He promised to pay some money if he consented to the act, but the accused refused to pay after enjoying himself.”’ He noted that the off ences contravened Sections 54 and 136 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015 (Revised). Th e Chief Magistrate, Ipaye Nwachukwu, granted bail to the accused in the sum of N100, 000 each with two sureties each in like sum. She ordered that the accused should submit their passport-size photographs to the court registrar. Ms. Nwachukwu said one of the sureties must be a blood relation of the accused, while the other must be a cleric or a community leader. In addition, the sureties should provide evidence of tax payment to the government. She adjourned the case until August 3 for mention. (NAN)
