The Federal Ministry of Works and Housing has rehabilitated a 1.25 kilometre internal road within the Federal University of Technology, (FUT) Minna to ease movement of goods and services.

Minister of Works and Housing, Mr Babatunde Fashola, said at the handing over ceremony of the rehabilitated road to the university management in Minna last Friday that the road would make teaching and learning conducive in the institution.

Fashola, represented by the Federal Controller in Niger state, Mr. Moshood Samotu, disclosed that the ministry successfully intervened in 64 internal road projects in various federal tertiary institutions and handed over 46 of such roads to the various institutions in March, 2022.

“It is undebatable that quality of education will be impacted by the quality of infrastructure and the learning environment; President Muhammadu Buhari’s government has stepped up to lead the process of getting that work done.

The minister disclosed that 18 road projects were ready to be handed over, adding that the ministry was currently intervening in 19 roads in similar institutions across the country, making a total of 83 roads.

He disclosed that during the construction of the road, 30 people were employed in the process, contributing to the job creation initiative of the government and urged the university to ensure proper use of the road and embrace maintenance culture.

Earlier, the Vice Chancellor of FUT Minna, Prof. Adamu Kuta, had commended the laudable intervention of the government in the university, saying that the road would ease movement of goods and governance of the university as well as academic activities.

He appealed to the Federal Government for an infrastructure intervention in the university, adding that the university was expanding and the population of students was increasing.

In her remarks, the Financial Secretary of the Students Government Union (SUG), Miss Amina Abdulrahim, said the road was in a deplorable shape which affected movement of students from their classrooms to lecture hall.
