10th NASS: Doguwa pulls out of Speakership contest

The House of Representatives Majority Leader, Alhassan Ado-Doguwa, has announced his decision to relinquish his aspiration for the speakership position.

The declaration was made on Wednesday evening in the presence of elected members during a meeting at the Transcorp Hilton Hotel in Abuja.

In attendance at the meeting were Femi Gbajabiamila, the Speaker of the House, along with Tajudeen Abbas and Benjamin Kalu.

Abbas and Kalu were nominated by the All Progressives Congress for the positions of speaker and deputy speakership, respectively, in the 10th House of Representatives.

Additionally, Abubakar Maki and Olatunji Olawuyi revealed that they were no longer competing for the positions.

Ado-Doguwa, who represents the Doguwa/Tudun Wada Federal Constituency in Kano State, emphasised that he was formalising his declaration to withdraw his ambition for the speakership.

He made this decision on the same day the ruling party announced its preferred candidate.

Ado-Doguwa expressed his readiness to support the party’s choice, citing the benefits he has gained from the zoning arrangement.

He further stated that Abbas possesses the necessary legislative experience to effectively lead the 359 members of the House.
