Gov. Nwifuru, council boss mourn Ogbonnaya Onu

Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru of Ebonyi state Friday said the demise of Dr.Ogbonnaya Onu has created a vacuum in the state.

The Governor in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary Monday Uzor said  the late minister would be remembered for his candour.

“I received with rude shock the news of the death of former governor of old Abia state, and an illustrious son of our state,  Dr Ogbonnaya Onu.

“Dr. Onu who also served the nation as Minister of Science and Technology was a thoroughbred Politician and an advocate of justice and fairness.  It is indeed a sad development losing a patriotic leader who stopped at nothing at rendering best services to his people when he served in different capacities.

“He will be remembered for his wit, candour, knack for excellence and relentless commitment to the development of our state and nation.

“On behalf of Government and people of Ebonyi state, I extend my heartfelt condolences to the immediate family and pray God to give them fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.”

Also mourning, Chairman of Ivo local government area, Mr. Emmanuel Ajah in a statement, said that late Onu would be missed for his fatherly advice and wealth of experience in politics.

“Dr. Onu was one of our illustrious sons having come from our federal constituency, Ohaozara, Onicha and Ivo federal constituency.

“He was also the father of this local government when it was under Abia state.

“He was an upright politician, a man of peace and humility, a bundle of knowledge and lover of justice, equity and fairness.

“We would have loved him to continue to be with us on this planet earth to continue to tap from his wealth of experience in politics, governance and general life  but since it pleases God to call him to his side, who are we to question him”.
