Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has disclosed that it was prepared to build two new 132KV sub-stations in Gashua and Nguru, in addition to the construction of 245km Damaturu-Gashua-Nguru transmission line. Th e transmission line project which was awarded by the federal government in 2012 had suff ered the lack of budgetary funding and was initially designed to terminate in Gashua, but has now been extended to Nguru. Th is was made possible through the eff orts of the member representing Nguru, Machina, Yusufari and Karasuwa constituency in the House of Representatives, Alhaji Sidi Yakubu Karasuwa.
While inspecting the proposed project sites in Nguru and Gashua, the TCN transmission line Engineer, Kefas Baduku, said ‘the project which was abandoned for over fi ve years due to lack of funding was made possible through the support of Alhaji Sidi Karasuwa.” He stressed that when completed the project would not only serve the electricity needs of residents of Nguru and Gashua, but also all the neighbouring communities.”
Commenting on the project, the Mai Nguru, Alhaji Mustapha Ibn Kyari, and that of Bade Alhaji Abubakar Umar Suleiman as well as the chairman, Bade local government council, Alhaji Aji Sale Suleiman, commended the lawmaker for ensuring that the project was captured in the 2017 budget. Sidi, who spoke to our correspondent through the Garkuwan Nguru, Alhaji Goni Yilkan, confi rmed that “all arrangements have been made to kick-start the construction of the two 132KV power substations in Bade and Nguru local government areas, respectively.
