Without press, there will be less civilization– Activists say


Youths Activists in the country under the aegis of’ Activista Nigeria’ have called on the government and concerned authorities to provide enabling environment for journalists to operate asserting that without freedom of the press, there will be less civilization in the society.


National Coordinator of Activista Nigeria Mary Jacob Okwuosa who made the call in a press statement on the occasion of the world press freedom day said the media contributes immensely in educating, moulding and shaping the behaviors of people in the world.

“The press have been the bridge, linking and connecting people across boarders. Without doubt, all information and knowledge have been made available at the slightest by the efforts of different types of press”. She asserted.


According to her, Activista is a platform of young people who feel responsible for their society and totally willing to keep causing change through advocacies and campaigns. 


She added that the forum is being supported by the international non governmental  organization called ActionAid that works in the area of human rights protection, eradication of hunger and poverty.


“All the success stories we have recorded as a network of Activists and as an embodiment of ActionAid can not be acknowledged without appreciating the role and influence of the press.”


“It is a defect in a system if the freedom of the press is questionable or clearly deprived, and should be fixed as the hidden realities await the press to unveil.”


“Today as we celebrate the world press freedom day, we are celebrating the efforts of the press in achieving a more transparent and conducive society for all”. She stated.
