Why Yobe allocated 15% to health sector in 2024 budget – Director

The Yobe state Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning has said the allocation of N32.7 billion  to the health sector, which is 15 per cent of the total proposed N217 billion 2024 budget, will promote healthcare delivery services in the state.

The deputy director budget, ministry of budget and economic planning, Audu Hassan, made this known Friday during a media meeting at the state level, organised by a civil society in malaria control and immunization; and other development partners, held in Damaturu.

Hassan stated that in an effort to provide accessible and affordable healthcare delivery services to the people, Governor Mai Mala Buni intends to provide new accommodation facilities for staff in Potiskum, Geidam, Gashua Specialist Hospitals, and renovate Nangere and Fika General Hospitals, respectively.

Earlier in his remarks, the State Programme Officer, Civil Society in Malaria Control and Immunisation, Yobe state, Muktar Mohammed Shehu, said the meeting was to strengthen the working relationship and linkages with media organisations and practitioners.

He stated that it would also ensure the state and local governments increase funding in the fight malaria and fast track successes recorded within the year.

Shehu noted that in Yobe state, the community-centred initiative being implemented by ACOMIN has yielded successes in 2023.
