We need credible leaders for 2019 – Aisha Buhari

Wife of the President, Aisha Mohammadu Buhari has said the country deserves to be governed by credible leaders who are sensitive to the plight of people.
The First Lady said most of the Nigerian leaders use the women as pawn to just to fulfil their selfish interests, only to dump them when they would have secured their mandate.
Hajiya Aisha Buhari made this remark at the National Summit for Female Political Aspirants organised by her in collaboration with the National Centre for Women Development (NCWD), and the National Council for Women Societies and Women in Politics Forum with the theme: Increasing Women Participation in Nigeria Democratic Process, in Abuja at the weekend.
“Women make up the larger body of voters and as such, they determine the outcome of every election.
Our women leaders play a key role for the success of any development efforts if given the opportunity,” she said.
Aisha lauded NCWS and WIPF for being at the forefront of advocating for the 35 per cent Affirmative Action for inclusion of women in party structure, elective positions, and the recently accented Not Too Young To Run.
She urged the Nigerian women to support female aspirants in flying the flags of respective parties during the general elections, adding that their efforts should exhibit and enhance the reality of Nigerian women aspirants in the upcoming general elections, with the view to having more female candidates on the ballot papers.
Earlier, President Muhammadu Buhari said participation of the female folks in politics was a welcome initiative, adding that he would personally support and facilitate the efforts to enhance the development of the nation.
Director General, NCWD, Barr.
Mary Ekpere-Eta, said the summit was the first of its kind, and that despite the increase in women representation in national parliaments globally, it was still well below the 35 per cent benchmark often identified as the necessary level of representation in politics.
“The participation of our Nigerian women in politics has sadly remained poor and as suggested by data, the participation of women in the affairs of political parties has not transformed to the real opportunities as to allow them participate effectively in governance.” FCT senatorial aspirant, Mrs Ireti Heebah Kingibe said the summit would give more room for women in the society to participate and fly their tentacles in supporting the men to move the nation and the present administration forward.
