Katsina PDP crisis deepens, congress forms hijacked

Ahead of the congress, crisis erupted in the Katsina state chapter of the Peoples Democratic party (PDP) as forms supplied from Abuja for congresses were allegedly hijacked by another group.

The steering committee under the leadership of the former administrative secretary, Alhaji Salisu Uli, were left stranded at the party secretariat in Katsina on Thursday when he led delegates from 6 local governments areas to purchase the forms.

Uli told reporters, “It’s really strange, there was no official to attend to us at the secretariat.”

He expressed dismay over the situation saying that at “this is a crucial time, it’s now five days to the deadline, but the party officials were nowhere to be found.”

“The party caretaker chairman was not in the office, no one is on sit, not even the admin secretary, a position I held and know it’s functions.”

Although Alhaji Uli claimed there was no split in the party, he pointed out that all the top notches of the party were intact,  but Blueprint learnt that the gubernatorial candidate of the PDP at the 2023 general elections Senator Yakubu Lado Danmarke, is not with the group.

“The Senator is the one, alleged to have pocketed the party’s caretaker committee and dictating the decision of the officials. He is alleged to have hijacked the congress forms to be sold to members of his camp.”

Efforts to contact the committee chairman at the state headquarters, Alhaji Musa Abdulkarim, was abortive, leaving stakeholders in a state of uncertainty.

“We will keep monitoring and decide our next step,” Uli stated, hinting of possible escalation of the crisis if the situation was not resolved swiftly.

The PDP in Katsina state was plunged into crisis after the 2023 elections, when the gubernatorial candidate Senator Yakubu Lado Danmarke decided not to challenge the results at the tribunal.

Despite his denials that he had no substantive support as some of the PDP notches have either decamped to APC or worked for the APC during the elections, he was alleged to have compromised with the APC which was declared winner of the elections, but Danmarke denied the allegation.
