The West African Examinations Council (WAEC), Tuesday, has reiterated zero tolerance for examination malpractice in its ongoing West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).

This was contained in a statement by the WAEC’s spokesperson, Moyosola Adeshina.

She stated that while the examination has generally proceeded smoothly, it has surmounted various challenges.

She emphasized WAEC’s efforts to combat examination malpractice, urging “all well-meaning Nigerians to collaborate with WAEC to ensure that the fraudulent activities of certain unscrupulous elements are frustrated in order not to erode the diligent efforts of candidates who have prepared tirelessly for the examination.”

For the benefit of candidates and to underscore its commitment, WAEC reiterated some key instructions.

“Candidates must be seated in the examination hall before the commencement of each subject. Supervisors have been fully briefed to report any late arrivals; WAEC has deployed advanced technological applications to identify candidates who patronize rogue websites and use illicit materials during the examination; Candidates found to have posted or received live questions/answers on the internet via social media will have their entire results withheld pending investigation by the Council’s appropriate committee.

“If found culpable, their entire result will be cancelled, and the matter may be reported to the Nigeria Police Force for investigation and prosecution.”

WAEC concluded by reaffirming its commitment as a world-class examining body to excellence, pledging to do “all within its power to ensure that the integrity of educational assessment within its purview is not compromised.”
