The governorship election tribunal sitting in Kano, presided over by Justice Halima Shamaki, has dismissed the petition filed by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) against Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje and All Progressives Congress (APC).
The tribunal declared that the petition of the PDP and its candidate, Abba Yusuf, challenging the victory of All Progressives Congress (APC) lacked merit.
The chairman of the three-member panel, Shamaki, in a judgement read for over 3 hours at the High Court, Kano, dismissed PDP’s petition seeking the nullification of Ganduje’s victory in the March 9 governorship election.
Speaking shortly after the judgement, chairman of the PDP in the state, Alhaji Rabiu Suleiman Bichi, said party had referred the judgement to a team of lawyers and would decide on the next line of action.
He appealed to supporters to remain calm and go about their normal businesses for the well being of the state.
In his remark, the All Progressives Congress chairman in the state, Alhaji Abdullahi Abbas, said the judgement was a clear indication that the people of Kano voted for their party in the last gubernatorial election.
He called on members of other parties to hands with APC with a view to moving the state forward.
