UNN to establish ICT academy

University of Nigeria, Nsukka, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with a Chinese company, Huawei, to establish an academy for Information and Communication Technology (ICT).
The Vice Chancellor of the university, Prof. Benjamin Ozumba, signed on behalf of the institution while the Channel Service Project Manager Simon Zhang signed for Huawei.
Commenting on the project, Prof. Ozumba said Huawei Academy would benefit from whatever it invests in the university both from workers and students.
“ICT is the backbone of technology and innovations in every part of the world. Both UNN and Huawei will benefit from the MoU.
“The university has forty-five thousand students. I am optimistic that UNN will live up to the expectations contained in the MoU.
“Whatever Huawei will invest in UNN, it will reap the benefits. UNN does not have simulators, but with Huawei academy in UNN the university will start using simulators,” VC said.
The Vice Chancellor therefore, commended Huawei for finding the university worthy of its academy saying the students and staff are in support of the initiative.
On his part, Zhang said the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, is the first school where Huawei would establish its academy in Nigeria.
“We are establishing our first Huawei academy in UNN; and from here, we will reach other universities in Nigeria. “I thank the VC and university management for their approval of the establishment of the academy in UNN.”
Barely two months ago, the university set up laptop assembly plant named Lion Plant Assembly Complex, and commissioned by the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Mohammad Sa’ad Abubakar III.
