The National / State Assembly Election Petition Tribunal, Wednesday, affirmed Barr. Aminu Waziri Tambuwal’s election as duly elected senator representing Sokoto South senatorial district.
In its ruling, the three-man panel led by Justice Dennis Madi Echesi dismissed the petitioner’s claim that there were irregularities in the February/April elections for lack of merit.
It said that the petitioner, Alhaji Ibrahim Danbaba, candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) failed to prove his claim beyond reasonable doubt and that the evidence presented was not cogent and reliable.
Reacting to the tribunal judgment, counsel to the petitioner, Barrister Chris Kelechi said his team will study the judgment and then take appropriate step.
“The tribunal has promised to hand over the copy of the judgement tomorrow, after which we will sit to check very well before going for appeal,” he said.
Also reacting to the judgment, counsel to the former governor of sokoto state, Suleiman Usman, SAN, commended the judgment, saying: “The Tribunal has given a lengthy judgement in which the cases were evaluated and in its ruling said the evidence of the petitioners are not reliable, contradicting and unproven.”
Similarly, the tribunal had on Tuesday dismissed a petition brought before it by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) House of Representatives candidate, Alhaji Balarabe Shehu Kakale for Bodinga/Danger Shuni/Tureta Federal Constituency challenging the victory of the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Alhaji Nasiru Shehu Bodinga
Reading the judgement on behalf of two other panel members, Justice Jolice Easter Tafa said the petitioner failed to prove his claim beyond reasonable doubt.
