Transfer: Leeds United target Uche

Newly-promoted Premier League side Leeds United have expressed interest in Super Eagles midfielder Chrisantus Uche as they aim to strengthen their squad for the 2025-26 campaign.

Per reports from Leeds United journalist Beren Cross and The Athletic’s Real Madrid correspondent Guillermo Rui, the club approached Getafe weeks ago to inquire about Uche’s availability, though no formal offer has been made yet.

Sources within Getafe, who spoke on condition of anonymity, revealed that the 22-year-old has a €25 million release clause and is reportedly open to a move to the Premier League. While Serie A sides have also shown interest, insiders believe the Leeds project holds greater appeal for the Nigerian midfielder.

Uche joined Getafe from Spanish third-division club Ceuta last summer and signed a deal running until 2028. He quickly established himself in La Liga, scoring four goals and contributing six assists in 33 appearances to help the club avoid relegation.

Highly versatile, Uche was deployed across several attacking roles throughout the season — from central forward to winger and attacking midfielder. His consistency and energy both on and off the ball made him a standout performer for Getafe.

His impressive form earned him a debut call-up to the Super Eagles for the Unity Cup in London, where he made an instant impact by scoring the winning penalty in Nigeria’s victory over Jamaica in the final.
