TetFund to open ATBU campus in Tafawa Balewa


A social group in Bauchi state known as ‘ Bauchi Youth Group for change’ has appealed to the Executiive Secretary of Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TetFund) Prof Sulaiman Bogoro to revisit his decision and open the proposed Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University (ATBU) campus in Tafawa Balewa Local government area of the state.


Chairman of the group Com Bala Bogoro made the appeal in a press release issued to newsmen on Sunday in Bauchi where he lamented that despite its history of producing eminent sons like the late Nigerian Prime Minister Abubakar Tafawa Balewa, former Bauchi state Governor Ahmed Muazu and late senator Ali Wakili etc, the  local government lacks a single tertiary institution.


According to him, the campus if fully takes off would not only provide opportunity to the youths of the area, state to further their education but could also create jobs.


“As you know, Tafawa Balewa has produced eminent people like late Sir Abubakar Tafawa Balewa of blessed Memory, Senator Ali Wakili, former Bauchi State Governor Alhaji Ahmed Mu’azu, professor Sulaiman Elias Bogoro and Speaker House of Representatives Yakubu Dogara to mention but a few but yet the yet the area lacks tertiary institutions to quench the demand of  upcoming  youths on education.”

“President Muhammadu Buhari’s decision to recall Professor Bogoro back to TetFund deserved commendation and appreciation. This was in consideration of his capacity, track records and the confidence the President has on him”. He said.

The group called on Professor Sulaiman Bogoro with a loud voice to double his efforts to ensure that he upgrades tertiary institutions in Nigeria so that they can compete with similar institutions around the world.

He further called on TetFund to construct befitting science laboratory in all secondary schools in Nigeria to encourage practicals and students participation in science courses after their secondary school.
