Super Eagles’ Onyemaechi suffers injury, to miss Lesotho, Zimbabwe clash

The Super Eagles have been dealt new injury blow after several injured top stars Victor Osimhen, Wilfred Ndidi and Samuel Chukwueze will miss the forthcoming 2026 World Cup qualifiers.

Portugal-based defender Bruno Onyemaechi is the latest player who could also miss the World Cup qualifiers due to injury.

The leftback was forced out by injury from Boavista 3-1 home loss to his former club Farense at the weekend and it is now left to be seen the extent of the injury.

Onyemaechi has in the absence of Zaidu Sanusi and Jamilu Collins staked a claim for a starting place in the Super Eagles after decent outings in last month’s friendlies against Saudi Arabia and Mozambique.

The Eagles welcome Lesotho to Uyo Thursday before they fly out to Rwanda to battle Zimbabwe three days later as the 2026 World Cup qualifying tournament begins.
