Stakeholders from public and private sectors, including educationists, civil society organisations, and development partners have pledged their support for the bill seeking for the establishment of a Federal Vocational and Training Centre, Mallam Madori, Jigawa state.
The stakeholders gave their backing at a one-day public hearing organised by the House of Representatives Committee on Alternative Education at the National Assembly in Abuja recently.
The lawmaker representing Mallam Madori /Kaugama Federal Constituency of Jigawa state, Hon Abubakar Makki Yalleman, who sponsored the bill, said the bill for an act to establish the Federal Vocational and Training Centre, Mallam Madori will provide professionalism and competence in vocational and skills education and enable students gain reforms in Nigeria’s entrepreneurs sector.
He stated further that the federal vocational and training centre will offer courses that are crucial for national and manpower development.
Hon. Yalleman said the bill will equip the students with practical skills, enhance employment opportunities and promote economic growth.
He said if established, the training centre will play a vital role in bridging the gap between education and demand for labour market as well as fostering innovation, and ultimately contributing to a more skilled and productive workforce.
He added that if the bill scales through, it will address unemployment and underemployment through skill development in specific areas needed for various industries.
He also said it will bring job creativity through entrepreneurship and self-employment that will stimulate economic growth.
