Southern Kaduna professionals honour Durunguwa, urge unity in diversity

All roads led to Kafanchan, headquarters of Jema’a local government area of Kaduna state during the week, for the honour of a former Federal Commissioner of the National Population Commission, representing Kaduna, Alhaji Abdulmalik Durunguwa.

In an address at the ceremony that was organised by the Southern Kaduna Professionals held at Unity Wonderland Hotel Kafanchan and attended by people from all walks of life, chairman of the occasion, Senator Danjuma Laah, described Dr Abdulmalik Durunguwa as a hard working gentleman that has led a successful life, especially his service to others.

Senator Laah observed that Durunguwa has fostered understanding, unity and partnership across the landscape of the collective existence of the people of Southern Kaduna.

He said Durunguwa has also impacted and mentored many people of the area, including women and youth against which backdrop he described the honour organised for the former federal commissioner as well deserved.

Earlier, President of the Southern Kaduna Professionals, Arc Samuel Hassan Yakubu expressed gratitude for the honour done to Alhaji Abdulmalik Durunguwa, whom he described as a unifier and a worthy ambassador that served diligently as the federal commissioner representing the state at the NPC and finished two terms meritoriously.

“We have identified that societal building is a collective responsibility, hence the resolve to form a formidable front to advance community development.

“Our coming together is rooted in the realism that we are stronger together if we want to achieve the desired development and harmonious relationship across our ethnic nationalities,” he added.

While employing all the people of the area to hold onto the Southern Kaduna dreams, he also urged them to be intentional in adding value to their communities and promote economic activities at every given opportunity.

Dr Abdulmalik Durunguwa in response thanked the Southern Kaduna Professionals for honouring him and tasked the people of the area to embrace peace and unity by shunning politics of diversity and religion.

The guest speaker, Dr. John Danfulani, said Southern Kaduna has participated actively in politics since the return to democratic governance in 1999 but that the quantum of dividends of democracy in the area is not commensurate with its involvement.
