Soludo demolishes shanties, criminal hideout in Anambra market

The Anambra state government enforcement team, Operation Clean and Healthy Anambra (OCHA) brigade, Wednesday, destroyed shanties and illegal structures along building material at the International Market Ogidi, Idemili North local government area of the state.

Managing Director of the agency, Comrade Celestine Anere, who disclosed this in an interview, explained that the demolished structures had been housing hoodlums and criminals terrorising residents and traders in the area.

According to him, the operation was carried out on Tuesday by a special enforcement team of OCHA brigade with the purpose of chasing away all the criminals operating within Ogidi and Ogbunike axis.

He added that criminals terrorising the axis have been maiming and committing all kinds of heinous crimes on innocent citizens and business owners plying the road, including robbery, kidnapping and carjacking.

“The dismantling of these shanties and illegal structures will also aid the free flow of water through the canals as these structures were constructed on waterways, which have obstructed the drainage system.

“Aside from the above stated, it will help reduce traffic and decongest the area for smooth vehicular movement. Operation Clean and Healthy Anambra; OCHA Brigade will continue to ensure that the state is safe and conducive as envisaged by governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo’s agenda on green, clean, healthy, livable and prosperous homeland,” he noted.
