Smugglers attack, injure Customs officers over seized tokunbo Vehicles, others

Three Customs officers from the Federal Operations Unit (Zone A) were injured when daredevil smugglers attacked a custom team on patrol along Aradagun end of Badagry- Seme expressway on Wednesday morning.

The latest is the second of such attacks on the Federal agency officials patrolling the vast border of the country in the SouthWest region.

Confirming the ugly development, the Unit’s Public Relations Officer, Theophilus Duniya said the smugglers mobilised mobs to attack the officers but they repelled the attack and succeeded in transporting the intercepted smuggled items to the unit headquarters, Ikeja.

He said “This morning at about 500 hours on Wednesday, 17th February, 2021 daredevil smugglers attacked a patrol team of officers of the Federal operations Unit Zone A, who were on lawful duty.”

The officers who were on routine patrol intercepted vehicles fully loaded with smuggled frozen poultry products as well as foreign used vehicles also known as tokunbo along Aradagun end of Badagry- Seme expressway.

“Our officers, after intercepting and attempting to evacuate the smuggled items to the office, were attacked by mobs who were mobilized by the smugglers.
