SMEs: Be agents of change: Buni tasks beneficiaries of empowerment training

Yobe state Governor Mai Mala Buni has charged 50 beneficiaries who under go training on soft skills development for SMEs to consider themselves as agents of positive change and be ready to impart knowledge acquired to their apprentices in the state.

Governor Buni made the call on Friday in Damaturu, at the closing ceremony of two-week training programme on soft skills development for SMEs in the state.

Represented by his deputy, Idi Barde Gubana, Buni said the state has concretized its commitment by completing a ten-day training workshop for trainers in ten different vocations for 50 beneficiaries who would in turn train other 50 more youth, during a one year period as part of their contributions to the development of small and medium scale enterprises in the State.

He revealed that the training was in line with the goal of the present administration in the state which is providing employment opportunities.

“The state is proud to associate with the Sir Ahmadu Bello Memorial Foundation in their common drive at providing employment and income generation opportunities for self-reliance to the teeming youth in the state.

“The beneficiaries are expected to train one parson and continuously for the knowledge acquired to spread among the existing small and medium enterprises in the form of a revolving cycle of train the trainers programme for increased productivity and wealth creation in the State”, he said.
In his welcome address, the senior special assistant to Governor Buni on wealth Creation Empowerment and Employment Generation, Abdullahi Bego, said the training was inline with state government’s vision of making people of the Yobe more economically viable for improved livelihoods.

“Governor Buni has a special passion for empowering the people of the state especially the youth and vulnerable through initiating many businesses and means of livelihood to cushion the effects of Insurgency in the state”, he said .

Also speaking, the Secretary Board of Trustee, Sir Ahmadu Bello Memorial Foundation and former Governor of Kano state, Mallan Ibrahim Shekarau, explained that the foundation is an organisation institutionalised in honour of late Northern premier Sir, Ahmadu Bello(Sardaunan Sokoto).

“The foundation has been actively engaged in initiating that,the aimed to uplift and empowered people of Yobe state,” he said.
