Popular musician Hamisu Breaker and TikTok influencer Abubakar Ibrahim, popularly known as G. Fresh, have been sentenced by a Federal High Court in Kano for the abuse of the Nigerian currency.
The duo was arraigned by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) before Justice Sale Musa Shuaibu on separate charges of Naira mutilation. Both pleaded guilty when the charges were read in court.
Hamisu Breaker was convicted for spraying ₦200 notes amounting to about ₦30,000 during a party in Hadejia, Jigawa State. G. Fresh was similarly found guilty for spraying bundles of ₦1,000 notes at the opening of a shop in the Tarauni area of Kano State.
Justice Shuaibu sentenced both men to five months in prison each, with an option of a ₦200,000 fine.
The EFCC reiterated its warning against currency abuse, stressing that such actions are in violation of the Central Bank of Nigeria Act and would be met with strict legal consequences.
