There is palpable anxiety over the reconciliation meeting by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) held last night at the Ondo Governor’s Lodge in Abuja.
At the time of filing in this report, it was still not clear if the ousted National Chairman, Senator Ali Modu Sheriff, whose camp is yet to accept the condition for peace in the party, would attend the meeting.
His Special Assistant on Media, Hon. Inuwa Bwala, told our correspondent on phone that if there was going to be any reconciliatory meeting, his principal should be the one to convene it.
According to him, they are not aware of the meeting and angrily retorted: “Let them go ahead and hold their meeting.”
The uncertainty was as a result of the failure of both Sheriff and Senator Makarfi groups to withdraw the cases they instituted against each other as directed by the Board of Trustees (BoT).
Apparently, non-compliance to the directive to withdraw the cases would mean that the crisis in the party was far from being over.
It is being feared in some quarters that the PDP may not participate in the Edo state gubernatorial election on September 10 as preparations by the participating political parties are already on top gear.
At the time of this report, it was not verifiable whether the PDP aspirants in Edo state had obtained their nomination forms to be duly signed by the national chairman of the party.
There was also no mention of a possible date for the primary election, but the aspirants are busy campaigning for votes.
Meanwhile, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has said that all the parties have between July 1 and 4 to conduct the primaries.
