The Senate Tuesday set up 19-member committee to monitor the administration of Rivers state under the leadership of Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (rtd.), who was recently appointed as the state’s Sole Administrator.
According to the Senate, the move aims to promote accountability and transparency in the state’s governance.
The Leader of the Senate, Senator Opeyemi Bamidele, will head the 19- member panel, as announced by Senate President, Godswill Akpabio during plenary session.
Akpabio however, noted that the composition of the committee may be adjusted after further consultations.
He emphasised the significance of the panel’s responsibilities, describing it as essential for proper legislative oversight in the state.
The committee comprises Senators Adamu Aliero, Osita Izunaso, Osita Ngwu, Kaka Shehu, Aminu Abass, Tokunbo Abiru, Adeniyi Adebire, Sani Musa, Simon Lalong, Asuquo Ekpeyong, Adams Oshiomhole, Ireti Kingibe, Onyekachi, Idiat Adebule, Ide Dafinone, and Senator Jimoh Ibrahim.
The Clerk of the Senate is also part of the team.
Akpabio urged the committee to begin its oversight work immediately, highlighting the urgency of the task and reiterating the Senate’s dedication to protecting democratic principles in Rivers state.
