See cow rearing as private business, TACN warns herdsmen

National president of The Apostolic Church of Nigeria (TACN) Dr. Sampson Igwe, has warned herdsmen against destroying people’s properties noting that cow rearing is their private business.

He gave the warning at a press conference in Ilesa, Osun state, at the weekend, during the familiarisation tour to Ilesa zone, comprising of Osun, Ondo, Ekiti and Kogi states.

Expressing displeasure over the rate of killing by herdsmen, TACN president stated that the fact that people are eating meat is not a guarantee for herdsmen to be destroying people’s properties.

He said, “those who want to do it should have a place for it. The herdsmen should have a place. It is a private business. Nobody should destroy another people’s business. It is true that we all eat meat, no government is buying meat for us.

Speaking on the alleged killing of Nigerians in South Africa, Igwe called on federal government to urgently address the issue of unemployment to avoid further killing of Nigerians in the diaspora.

According to him, those evacuated from South Africa have been returned to the hostile environment which they ran away for. He said the best solution is to tackle unemployment so that Nigerians can have conducive environment and good standard of living.

“They were looking for greener pastures, that is why they left Nigeria. It is the hostile environment that sent them to South Africa. Returning them back to the same environment without addressing the issue of unemployment is not enough.

He advised the federal government to work with the state governors and ensure that the returnees go to their respective states, and handed over to their governors.

He called for unity and love among members of the Apostolic Church, noting that lack of care for members is affecting the growth of the church.

“It is observed that one of the major reasons the church is losing members in Nigeria is lack of care for members. The church should be seen as a home for all without any form of superiority over others by any group.

“I hereby call on church leaders to look after the spiritual, physical, material and emotional wellbeing of members.”
