Scores feared dead, homes destroyed in Plateau fresh attack

The Plateau state police command has confirmed the killing of scores of persons, in an alleged renewed hostilities between herders and farmers in Mai Tumbi community of Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau.

The command public relations officers, DSP Alabo Alfred, Monday confirmed the incident.

“I don’t want to give you a conflicting figure. Security personnel have been deployed to ensure normalcy in the area,” he confirmed.

Alabo said policemen and troops of Operation Safe Haven (OPSH), a multi security taskforce maintaining peace in the state had been deployed to restore law and order.

Some locals also confirmed killings of dozens of persons, as  well as destruction of properties.

 “Hundreds of people are fleeing the village. 

“I can not give you the exact number of people killed but many were killed. More than a hundred of houses were burnt,” Ibrahim Musa said.

According to another local, Ibrahim Isa, the crisis started when a farmer accused a herder of destroying his farm, an allegation that was denied by the herder. 

“After the disagreement was resolved. the farmer and his associates later when down to the house of the herder, killed him and one other person,” he said.
