A House of Representatives hopeful in Jigawa state, Barrister Kaloma Dahiru Mustapha, has condemned the rotational presidency option in the nation’s politics, saying that “as long as the number one seat is being rotated within the six geopolitical zones, the people will be divided alongside their sentiments.”
He stated this yesterday while fielding questions from reporters in Dutse, the Jigawa state capital.
Mustapha observed that instead of uniting the people, rotation of presidency had promoted nepotism, division and legalise corruption in the system.
He said: “We have lived for 100years, if we cannot accept each other as one people in spite of our diverse cultural and religious differences then rotation of presidency is not good for the promotion of unity in this country.
“What is the gain of practicing rotation of presidency? I will call on the members of constitutional conference and national assembly to consider removing it from our political system so that Nigerians can vote for individual not for a candidate because we belong to the same religion or geopolitical zone.”
He added: “I am looking forward to a time when Nigerians will begin to see each other as one people, a period when politics will be practice without sentiments in this country; our problems will be half solved.”
He scored Governor Sule Lamido high, saying that the former village state had been repositioned and “can now compete amongst other states in country because of the transformations it has witnessed in the past seven years under the present administration.”
On whether President Goodluck Jonathan should run in 2015 or not, he said “whatever the party decides will determine his fate.”
