The police in the FCT have arraigned a primary school teacher, Mohammed Abubakar, before an FCT Chief Magistrates’ Court for withdrawing N8,000 from the bank account of his namesake.
Abubakar, 35, who resides in Kwali, FCT, is charged with impersonation, theft and attempt to commit an offence.
The prosecutor, Corporal Emmanuel Nnamani, told the court that the accused person committed the crime at a Union Bank branch in Area 3, Garki, Abuja, on May 14, 2014.
He said the case was reported by one Chioma Chukwu, an employee of the bank, adding that the accused person impersonated one Mohammed Abubakar, a businessmen who is a customer of the bank and withdrew N8,000 from his account, using the businessman’s ATM card.
The prosecutor said that the accused person, using the same card, also attempted to make another withdrawal of N105,000 from the same account one week after withdrawing the first N8,000, which was detected and he was arrested.
The offence contravened the provisions of sections 132, 288 and 95 of the Penal Code, the prosecutor said.
The Magistrate, Hadiza Dodo, granted bail to the accused in the sum of N500,000 and a surety in like sum, who must have a definite residential address within the jurisdiction of the court.
She then adjourned the case until July 2 for continuation of hearing.
