Kano state Governor, Dr. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has warned contractors handling the five-kilometre roads construction project in all the 44 local government councils in the state to buckle up and complete the work in good time or have the contracts revoked.

Giving the warning to the contractors at a meeting he held with them at the Government House, Kwankwaso said reports reaching him had indicated that the construction work was at a snail speed, adding that government would not fold its arms and allow some individuals to hold it to ransom.
He said the coffers of the state were filled to the brim and that his administration was ready to pay the contractors who had executed the construction work to the satisfaction of government.

He said: “We want to send a clear signal to each and every one of you that government would never fold its arms and allow some lazy contractors to hold it to ransom.  We have the money to pay for every contract we have awarded.”

The governor said he had directed the management of Kano Urban Planning Development Authority (KNUPDA) to demolish structures whose compensation had already been effected by the state government, adding that government had set aside N1 billion for the purpose of compensating those affected by the demolition exercise.
