Paris Saint-Germain lifted their first-ever UEFA Super Cup on Wednesday, edging Tottenham Hotspur 4-3 on penalties after a dramatic 2-2 draw at the Stadio Friuli in Udine, Italy.

Tottenham looked poised to claim the trophy in their first competitive match under new coach Thomas Frank, taking a 2-0 lead shortly after half-time. Micky van de Ven opened the scoring in the 39th minute, and Cristian Romero doubled their advantage three minutes into the second half.

PSG staged a late comeback thanks to substitutes Lee Kang-in and Gonçalo Ramos. Lee pulled one back in the 85th minute, and Ramos headed in the equaliser in the 94th minute, forcing a penalty shootout.

The shootout began shakily for PSG, with Vitinha missing their opening attempt. But goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier made a crucial save from Van de Ven, and Mathys Tel also missed, allowing Nuno Mendes to convert the decisive penalty. For Spurs, Dominic Solanke, Rodrigo Bentancur, and Pedro Porro had scored from the spot, while Ramos, Ousmane Dembélé, and Lee netted for PSG before Mendes sealed the win.

The victory marks PSG’s first UEFA Super Cup triumph and the fifth trophy they have claimed in 2025. It is also a perfect start to the new season for Luis Enrique’s side, who had a shortened off-season following their FIFA Club World Cup final loss to Chelsea last month.

PSG will kick off their Ligue 1 campaign on Sunday against Nantes, while Tottenham prepare to face Burnley in the Premier League opener on Saturday.
