Probe Osun government over mismanagement of funds, APC alerts EFCC, ICPC

The All Progressives Congress (APC), has urged the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) and Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), to immediately launch a probe on ‘mismanagement of funds’ in Osun state.

But the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has dared the anti-graft, assuring that the state will welcome their probe anytime.

The state chairman of the APC, Tajudeen Lawal, who spoke at a press conference in Osogbo, Tuesday, alleged that governor Ademola Adeleke has turned the running of the state into his extended family enterprise where probity, accountability, and openness are no longer required.

According to APC, “Tongues are currently wagging in Osun State that the billionaire brother of governor Adeleke, Dr Deji Adeleke, and his son, Mr David Adeleke a.k.a. ‘Davido’ are interested parties in the touted multi-billion naira road and flyover projects using inactive and inexperienced companies to front for them.

“The financial injection through the supposed infrastructure is being circumvented and cornered by the Adeleke family using the business names of Dr. Deji Adeleke and the juvenile lawmaker from Ife North State constituency of Osun State.

“In the above-stated questionable contracts, the Osun State Public Procurement Agency brazenly violated the 2015 Public Procurement Law of the state in the award of the contracts worth about N50bn to entities with no professional and technical competence.

“It is bizarre that two companies founded by the incumbent Deputy Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, Mr Akinyode Abidemi Oyewusi, were recently awarded road construction contracts by the Government of Osun State.

“We want to use this medium to call on the anti-graft agencies, especially the ICPC and EFCC, to immediately move in their men to Osun State to halt the reckless mismanagement of public funds which is now endemic under the government of Senator Ademola Adeleke,” APC alleged.

In his reaction, the Chairman of the PDP in the state, Sunday Bisi, alleged that the APC left the state comatose with huge debt and still carted away properties of the government.

The PDP explained that the state government has nothing to fear if the anti-graft agencies are coming because Adeleke is transparent, insisting that the award of projects does not violate any law as alleged by the APC.

“We have no problem. We will welcome the anti-graft agencies. Our governors have nothing to hide. We are very transparent,” PDP said.

Bisi explained that the deputy speaker that was accused of awarding projects to, has resigned from his appointment with the company that was awarded the projects in 2023, warning APC to stop making unnecessary allegations.
