Prayer for a peaceful transition on May 29

I anticipated the calmness of the President Muhammadu Buhari government to hand over to President-Elect Bola Ahmad Tinubu the reins of power with all the honour it deserves. The hottest elections have come with much peace. Nigeria is advancing towards the era of democratic humanism, which requires the people choose those to govern them from top to bottom.

I recall the political era of 1963 when as a toddler I was able to cast my vote. Since then, I have remained only “Dan Dangwale,” one who votes for those to serve humanity. The politicians of yesteryears did only what would touch the goodwill of the people, especially regarding security, health and education.

Although, I will not dwell much on the peaceful handover between Tinubu and Buhari but the handover from military to civilian in 1979, was quite historical. Chief Olusegun Obasanjo handed over to the late Alhaji Shehu Aliyu Shagari even when the political gem of Yoruba, the late Chief Obafemi Awolowo, had contested the election in court.

1999 also had some interesting scenarios as Obasanjo who handed over to Shagari had returned as the civilian president. He ruled for eight years and is now the best letter writer of our time. He sees nothing good in his successors. The letter writer impresses no one especially his plan to destroy democracy in Nigeria. God has saved Nigeria from such people who became overnight billionaires and think they can buy over all Nigerians. Now 2023 has come with another system of political humanity.

The time has come for Nigeria’s unity for which some are skeptical about, because they want Nigeria to remain divided for their selfish end. The emergence of Tinubu as the President of Nigeria is a blessing because it will seal the unification of Nigeria. Tinubu has successfully crossed the evil-den that was about to sink Nigeria. God in His infinite mercy has helped Nigeria’s ship to navigate through the heavy waves. Tinubu’s victory, as a President and Commander-in-Chief of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, is well deserved. With his Vice from the North-east, Kashim Shettima, a former governor of Borno state, coupled the likes Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje of Kano state, the incoming government surely signals a dawn.

Nigerians should rally round the new administration, especially with prayers so that the duo of Tinubu and Shettima, alongside all those who helped the government into being like the Governors of Kaduna state, Nasir El-Rufa’I, Matawalle of Zamfara state as well as the Badaru Abubakar of Jigawa state, etc. Let Nigeria be a peaceful country in Africa and the world over.
