Iran has declared its readiness to share its expertise in the power sector with Nigeria with a view to solving its electricity problem.
This is a fall out of a technical meeting between the officials of the Ministry of Power and the Iranian delegation to Nigeria.
The delegation was led by its Minister for Trade, Industry and Mines, Mohammed Reza.
Reza said the delegation was in Nigeria to help the country overcome the problem of insufficient electricity.
He informed that his country had installed capacity of 70,000w and that it had over the years provided for a yearly increase of 5,000mw annually.
He said the delegation, which comprised of Engineers, Bankers, Business men and government officials, had signified interest in all the three electricity value chain of Generation, Transmission and Distribution.
“There are also Iranian Companies that are desirous of collaborating with Nigerian investors to produce switch gears, transformers and cables,” he said.
Welcoming the delegation, Minister of State for Power, Mohammed Wakil, commended it for the visit even when its primary purpose in Nigeria was to attend joint commission’s meeting.
He called on the delegation to collaborate with Nigeria in the provision of technical expertise in power generation, through gas-turbine, coal, wind and other renewables.
He said the Iran’s record of generating 70,000mw for a population of 74 million people was worthy of emulation.
Accepting the invitation of Nigeria to visit Iran, he promised that the delegation would include private sector operators.
He said in the spirit of Non Aligned Movement (NAM) Nigeria was ready to accept collaborative efforts from Iran.
