Polio: Adamawa to immunise 1.4m children, assures parents of vaccine safety

 The United Nations Children Fund (UNICEF) and Adamawa state government have appealed to parents and guardians across all the nooks and crannies of the state, to present their children for this year routine polio immunization taking place across the country.

Speaking in an interactive session with journalists on Friday in Yola, ahead of the exercise slated for April 26 to 29 2025, the executive chairman, Adamawa state Primary Health care Development Agency (ADSPHCDA) Dr.Bashir Saidu, said that all arrangements have been concluded to have a hitch free exercise across the state.

He further noted that they have received 1,443,300  doses of the vaccines and other supports from UNICEF to be administered  on 1,405,881 targeted children across the state.

He  described the vaccines as free, safe and effective which will build the immune system of children and protect them from any forms of diseases.

He noted that although Nigeria have been certified polio free but that doesnt mean that they will take it for granted.

According to him, people have also migrated into the state from other states that are known to be resistance to polio vaccines leading to emergenced of new settlements, hence the need to also carryout this exercise the settlements and all parts of the state to ensure that all eligible children are immunized accordingly.

Shedding more light on the exercise, an Health officer with UNICEF Bauchi field office, Oluseyi Olosunde, urged the people of Adamawa especially parents to take advantage of this exercise which taking place nationwide in compliance with federal government directive to protect the lives of their children.

He reiterated UNICEF’s commitments to keep on the good work of partnering with the state and all stakeholder’s to change the narratives of health sector in the state especially on issues concerning women and children among other areas of their interventions.
