Police arrest 23 suspects, seize AK-47 after fatal cult clash in Lekki

Lagos state Police command has significantly increased its security presence in the Lekki-Ajah axis and surrounding areas following a fatal cult clash that resulted in three deaths.

As part of a new strategy to combat crime, the command has redeployed several Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) and deployed a specialised unit, the Eko Strike Force, to the area.

The command’s spokesperson, Benjamin Hundeyin, stated Wednesday that the security measures were prompted by a tragic incident on Sunday in Lekki Phase 1, where a clash between rival cult groups on Wole Olateju Street led to the death of three individuals.

“The Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, personally led a team to the scene to restore order.

“In a swift and coordinated response, the newly established Anti-Cultism Team ( ACT) and other tactical units were deployed. These operations resulted in the arrest of 23 suspects believed to be linked to the crime.

“Among the exhibits recovered from the suspects are: one AK-47 rifle and one magazine; 14 rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition; one military camouflage cap; two cutlasses; Indian hemp and three Indian hemp crushers and one charm.”

He further stated that the Lagos state Police command assured residents that normalcy has been restored to the Lekki-Ajah axis and that the security situation is under control.
