PDP holds primaries on Saturday for Ekiti gov poll

Leadership of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) would this Saturday organise primaries for the 14 governorship aspirants vying for the party’s ticket in the June 21 governorship election in Ekiti state.
The ward congresses for the selection of its delegates for the primaries would hold tomorrow.

The leadership of the party had held a closed door meeting with the Ekiti State governorship aspirants after the attempts to make them to agree on a consensus arrangement hit the rocks.
It was gathered that while majority of the aspirants reportedly agreed for the consensus arrangement as muted by President Goodluck Jonathan, the former Governor of the state, Mr. Ayo Fayose was said to have insisted on primaries for the best candidate to emerge for the election.

Speaking with journalists after the closed door meeting of the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party with the aspirants and other stakeholders, the National Publicity Secretary, Chief Olisa Metuh, said the party would organise primary election for the aspirants if they could not totally agree on a consensus arrangement among themselves in line with the Party’s Constitution.

He explained that the party would only support the consensus arrangement if all the aspirants agreed among themselves, but once one or two disagreed, the party would have no option than to organise a transparent, free and fair primaries for its flag bearer to emerge.
