The Senator representing Osun East, Mr Francis Fadahunsi, Wednesday, distributed 6,000 10kg bags of rice to the people to cushion the effect of lockdown in Osun state.
Addressing news men during the distribution in Ilesa, the state Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Hon Soji Adagunodo, said the rice was meant for all the people of the state.
He disclosed that Fadahunsi had taken care of members of the PDP since the beginning of lockdown, noting that the 6,000 bags is for the needy in the three Senatorial Districts.
Adagunodo who lauded the federal government and governor Gboyega Oyetola of Osun state, called on members of the National Assembly in the ruling party to emulate the gesture.
“It is going to be distributed to all the Local Government in the three Senatorial Districts in Osun.
“A lot of personalities have reached out apolitically to people. Dr Deji Adeleke has done so, Hon Wole Oke, Ajilesoro, Bamidele Salaam. We are hoping that so many people that God has blessed will still come out to reach out to people. We are calling on members of the National Assembly of other parties to come out and do the same thing that the PDP Senator and House of Reps members are doing.
“We are going to give to trade unions, religious leaders and pensioners. It is not a political or party matter, it is meant for the needy.
“Senator Fadahunsi has been giving to party people. This particular one is for the general public. We are using the structure of the PDP in each of the local government and from there, it will get to the people.
He commended the federal and Osun state government for the steps they have taken to curtail the spread of the deadly virus.
“I want to commend the government for managing the COVID-19 actively. With what is happening all over the world, we must give commendation to Nigeria government.
“We were able to curtail it, that is why the spread is so low. What they have in other countries is alarming. The social distancing and the lockdown has helped tremendously. I still believe that we should be able to manage the lockdown and the social distancing combine together with what the president has announced.
“Nigeria government has been able to rise to the occasion on time. So, I commend the Federal government and the state government for what they have done so far, ” he stated.
