Osun Poly shut down as students go on rampage over death of colleague

Following the protest that greeted the death of a student of Osun state Polytechnic, Iree, on Friday, the management of the institution has announced the closing down of the polytechnic till further notice.
A student of Higher National Diploma, HND 1, in the department of Applied Chemistry, was reported to have slumped in the examination hall and later died in the hospital after an hour.

The students of the polytechnic went on rampage on Saturday and destroyed the health centre. They alleged that the deceased wouldn’t have died if he was attended to, immediately he was taken to the school health centre.

The protesting students alleged that the management of the polytechnic have not equipped the health centre with the N2,000 they are collecting on each students.

A student who pleaded anonymity, said the workers at the health centre told them that they have closed after 4.00pm, hence they could not attend to the student.
A statement by the Registrar of the institution, Barr. B. M. Salawu, directed the students to vacate the school premises with immediate effect.

The statement also commiserated with the family of the deceased and called for calm among the students.
