Osun govt attributes WAEC performance to Aregbesola’s intervention

Osun state government has attributed improvement in the performance of students in the West Africa Examination Council, WAEC, to the infrastructure put in place by Governor Rauf Aregbesola in the education sector.

The Commissioner for Education, Mr. AbdulWasiu Omotunde-Young who stated this at a press conference in Osogbo on Thursday, said the past records were made available to the public so that they will no longer be misled by those spreading falsehood against the government.

He said the performance of students in the state has improved from 21.90 percent to 44.59 percent, according to information secured from WAEC.

“The detractors have continued to attempt to deceive and hoodwink the society by deliberately parading and spreading false, unsubstantiated information that is not backed up by any credible evidence.

“To ensure that records are straightened for all to know, so that the public will no longer be misled by the shameless, who have no inhibition in deliberately spreading falsehood, the Ministry of Education applied to WAEC to officially furnish us with performance results from 2006-2017 in WAEC.

“The results, official from WAEC, show that the best performance by students in Osun, for those with five credits including English and Mathematics in WASSCE, in the five years before Aregbesola was 15.68 percent.

“With the focused, deliberate, and purposeful intervention of the government led by Aregbesola in the education sector, the state has achieved 284 percent improvement in the performance of students in same examination from 15.68 percent in 2010 to 44.47 percent in 2017 examinations.

He said provision of conducive classrooms for more than 200,000 students, supply of computer tablets (Opon Imo) to high school students, among others, contributed to the improvement in the performance of the students.
