Osun College sacks 82 workers

No fewer than 82 workers of Osun State College of Edu¬cation, Ila-Orangun, have been sacked by the management of the state-owned institution.
A report reaching us yesterday stated that the disengagement was in line with government’s policy to restructure tertiary insti¬tutions in the state.
It was also gathered that the affected workers were members of the non-Aca-demic Staff Union (NASU) of the college.

Chairman of the Aca¬demic Staff Union of the college, Segun Onifade, confirmed the development to newsmen in Osogbo yes¬terday that those  sacked were contract staff.
Onifade also disclosed that some of the sacked workers had spent six years before the authorities de¬cided to relieve them of their jobs.
Chairman of the col¬lege’s Governing Council, Niyi Akande, when con¬tacted on phone, however, said he was not aware of the sack.
He said: “I am not aware of that. I have not been told that anybody has been sacked. I am in Abuja.”
