Orji dissolves councils’ TCs

Barely 6 hours after a crucial closed door meeting with transition committee chairmen of the 17 LGAs in Abia state and 48 hours after meeting with their councillors, Governor Theodore Orji finally dissolved them on Friday.
In a state-wide radio broadcast that night authored by his Chief Press Secretary, Charles Ajunwa, Orji directed the TC chairmen to handover to their various Heads of Service, latest May 6 (yesterday), thus bringing to an end their over one-year political service to their fatherland.

Already some of the chairmen had started thanking the governor over the opportunity to serve.
In his facebook postings, Jerry Uzosike of Umuahia South thanked Orji and his wife for the opportunity given to him to serve for one year as council chairman and 30 months in various capacities as councillor, Deputy TC chairman and as chairman in Umuahia South.
This crop of chairmen had served for more than four three-month tenures more than any other chairmen in the state.
Sources have it that this sack was to pave way for gladiator chairmen who would be used for the on-coming general elections in the state to come in.

Political watchers said the in-coming TC chairmen were expected to be used to maintain the PDP hegemony in Abia, especially at the grassroots where politicking is toughest.
It is also seen as a way of allowing the 17 council Heads of Service to who the TC chairmen will handover to have a feel of the position of council leadership and the attendant benefits.
Opinions indicated that the new appointments might not come soon, but around the next three months.
