Operatives kill 7 bandits, lose 2 members in Plateau village – Official

No fewer than seven bandits/kidnappers were Saturday killed by the combined security operations of local vigilantes as well as conventional security forces in Wase local government area of Plateau state.

The chairman of Wase local government council, Dr. Ado Abubakar Buba, made the confirmation to Blueprint correspondent via telephone Sunday morning. He said the incident occurred in Bangalala bush.

Local youth leader in Wase, Shafi’e Isa, said local vigilantes attached to the joint security task force, Operation Safe Haven, Saturday evening trailed the bandits to their hideout in Bangalala bush.

“For some weeks now, bandits and kidnappers have been disturbing our communities and villages.

“Our local vigilantes, together with soldiers are doing their best, and on Saturday evening they followed some of the bandits into their places in the bushes. They killed many of them, two vigilantes died, one was injured,” Shari’e confirmed.

The nefarious activities of armed bandits/kidnappers put the lives of villagers within and around Wase local government area as well as those of Kanam local government area, of Plateau state in danger.

Bandits have some months ago killed no fewer than 100 persons in Kanam LGA, leaving scores injured, and rendered hundreds homeless.

Confirming the recent killing of bandits, the chairman of Wase local government council, Dr. Ado Abubakar Bubs, told AFP, that last Saturday, local vigilantes on the guidance of security task force were deployed into the bushes to chase the bandits.

“Security report to me said seven bandits were killed at Bangalala. Unfortunately, we lost two members of the vigilantes. One was injured but is fast recuperating.

“We have now implored the strategy of attached security forces with the vigilantes and we are getting good results,” Dr. Buba said.

Recently, the deputy speaker of Nigeria’s House of Representatives, Idris Ahmad Wase, blamed mining activities of brewing and harboring criminal elements.

He supported the federal government’s decision of banning the activities of miming.

“The banditry that is taken place in my constituency has a direct linkage with that of Zamfara.

“Wherever you find mining, you find insecurity,” he said.
